Description
This strikingly beautiful parlor stove was made at the height of Albany and Troy, New York cast iron parlor stove manufacturing renaissance. Recently there was an entire exhibition called " CAST WITH STYLE, 19th century cast iron stoves from the Albany area " was dedicated to these incredible functional works of art, presented at the Albany Institute of History and Art. Visit their web-site to learn more. I was not able to attend this exhibit so I do not know if an example of this stove our this makers work was included in the show. But I am sure that if they had one it would have been included. This is a petite stove with incredibly detailed florid decoration. It is signed, J C POTTS, Albany, New York, Patented 1847 No 3.The measurements are.21 1/2 inches high.29 inches long.11 1/4 inches wide. There are to cracks in the stove which have early beautifully executed repairs. These repairs are very strong and sturdy. You can see them in my photos. I do not believe these crack effect the fire box, but a professional stove person should be consulted if the stove were to be actually used. I view this stove as a purely decorative object. But I am sure it could be used.I did do a search for J C Potts, Albany. I came up with a record for Jesse Potts of Albany who had a foundry, in partnership with a Levi Hoffman which lasted between 1837 and 1847.If you live close enough to me I would consider delivering the stove, for an appropriate fee. If you think you might want me to deliver it e-mail me and I will let you know what the charge would be. I really do not like to drive so you would have to be close enough, and I will not drive into cities. The stove and fee would have to be paid for first via Paypal.
